FREE EASTER PARTY PRINTABLES

Where or where has the time gone?  I can't believe that Easter is this weekend!  For those of you doing some last minute planning, I wanted to help you along by posting some free printables that I created.  Expect to see more over the course of this week.

First off, I wanted to share this cute little design announcing the fun ahead. It could be used as a sweet door sign to welcome your guests or displayed on a table that holds all the tools needed for the egg hunt.  Either way, I hope it will add some fun to your day.  Enjoy!

MUSIC MONDAY vol 43

I spent a fair share of my high school years listening to this band's music.  I'm glad to say that even with most the members pushing 50, they still sound great.  I give you Depeche Mode with Heaven.

MINTIE FRESH: NON PHOTO HOLIDAY CARDS

I know that this post may seem a bit backwards especially after yesterday's Spring has sprung post.  It's still 18 degree F here in Chicago, so sadly this topic feels a touch more appropriate.

I've submitted a few designs to Minted's current  'Tis the Season: Holiday Non-Photo Card Challenge and the Corporate Cheer Business Holiday Card Challege that I wanted to share.

Voting doesn't begin until next week, but I'm hoping the weather will improve and I'll be sharing fun Spring themed designs by then. J

I'm a little enamored with the holly berry illustration that I used in both the Bristow Family Kraft Paper design (I was watching an old episode of Alias when I typed that family name) and the Randolph Partners Design.

You wouldn't know it from it's simplicity, but I think I spent about 2 hours designing it.  Nudging the berries this way and that and tweaking the leaves so they had just the right amount of whimsy.  Mr. Squareview doesn't know it yet, but that little holly berry will likely be making an appearance in our 2013 cards.

I tried something new and used texture for the first time in a Minted challenge.  I think I'm a fan.  You can see it subtly in Mistletoe (dark green on a darker green) and more pronounced in the crosshatch on Joy.  I'd love to hear your thoughts on utilizing texture in stationery.

As always, if you like what you see, please vote for me - next week.  Happy weekend all!

ST. PATRICK'S DAY PRINTABLES

The fun continues today!  Remember the picture I shared on Tuesday?  Well, that my friends was a visual representation of all the treats that help make St. Patrick's day a blast to celebrate.

Soda Bread, Shamrock Cupcakes, Thin Mint Cookies and even a tasty Lime - Ginger Float.  YUM!

Let me make this clear, I will not be baking anything.  I plan on trying to convince others to do so as I'm useless in the kitchen.  On the other hand, playing barkeep and whipping up those floats is right up my alley.

In case you are not as adverse to the oven as I, I wanted to share all the fun recipes for each of these tasty items. Please let me know if you try to make any of them!

While cooking/baking was not on my to do list, pulling together fun party printables definitely was!  Just like a Boy Scott, I wanted to be prepared to showcase the skills of others with some cute food tents.  I also wanted to make a fun door sign to set the mood for the celebration.

Both the door sign and blank food tents can be downloaded below.  If  you use them, I'd love to see!

We're off to Savannah tomorrow so have a happy & safe St. Patrick's  Day all!  Don't forget to wear your green.

After all your fun treats are prepared - hang the sign on your door to welcome everyone to your party!

ST. PATRICK'S DAY BUTTONS & BADGES

We're excited to be headed to Savannah, GA again this year to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.  Last year, everyone was really showing their green.  I, on the other hand, showed up with only a green shirt to show my spirit.  I figured it was time for me to step up my game so I designed a few buttons to wear and I wanted to share them with you!

To ward off all pinches you simply need to download the below PDF, print out on card stock, cut out and pin to your shirt!  If you want to get more interesting, you can grab a glue gun and attached the button to a ribbon.  Check out this tutorial for details from Missomnimedia - fun!

I think they would also be so fun as table confetti for your after parade party too.  I'll be posting more little post parade party ideas tomorrow. Stay tuned!

IN THE STUDIO: THE PROGRESSION OF A PROJECT

I thought it would be fun to take a look at the design progression of a project from start to finish.

I was asked by a client to create an art piece for her daughter's nursery.  Nursery/Children's Art is something that I've been thinking about offering since even before I opened the shop, but I hadn't had an opportunity to really flesh out the idea fully.  I'm so glad I could finally pull the trigger.

I'll plan on showing you the design progression of this piece in the coming few weeks.  Let's start with my first pass:

This is a screen shot of my Ai art board. I knew I wanted to create something girly and fun that highlighted Sophia's name.  I envisioned a piece that surrounded her name in my new favorite modern flowers.  I like how it started but then it was just getting a little busy for my tastes so I took a break and stepped away.  The above is how I left it.

Stay tuned to see the next stage....

MUSIC MONDAY vol 41

I caught a short documentary called Big Easy Express over the weekend.  The film covers a cross country music tour (via a train) starting in Oakland CA and ending in New Orleans. The tour had three acts, Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and Old Crow Medicine Show.  Here's the trailer.

I'm not sure how I missed them, but this is the first time I had heard of Old Crow Medicine Show.  They have a fun folks sound and I wanted to share.  Enjoy!
